A question for Asian Americans/Canadians?

I'm a first generation Chinese American and I have visit southern China where my parents are from (Fuzhou) when I was 12. And honestly, unless you know Cantonese or Fujianese, it's hard to get around. (Not to mention my dad ditched my sister and I to hang out with his friends for half of our time there =_= ) The food, scenery and the palaces/temples are nice though.
