Health Insurance company wants money back, Can they take it?

I was in a car accident. I have health insurance and used it to help pay my medical expenses and paid the remaining out of pocket. I sued the drunk driver that ran into the back of me and won the case. Now the insurance company is attempting to place a lien on my court case winnings to reimburse what they spent in my medical expenses. Can they do this?
